Harry leaned back on his elbows, listening to the surf. It was good to be able to take a vacation from his job as an Auror to come to the sea, even if it was winter and there were not very many people on the beach.

He loved the sea, had ever since his eleventh birthday, when Hagrid had told him he was a wizard. That trip, with the Dursleys, fleeing his Hogwarts letters, had been HarryÕs first trip to the sea, but not his last. It was not until his stay at Bill and FleurÕs, in what should have been his seventh year that he realized how much he loved the sea. And how much he lovedÉ

ÒLuna?Ó

ÒMm.Ó

ÒIÕm sorry.Ó

ÒFor what?Ó

ÒNothing. I was just thinking.Ó

ÒThinking about what?Ó Luna sat down beside him and pulled his head into her lap. ÒI was thinking about Yarwals.Ó

Harry decided not to ask what Yarwels were. Instead, he said, ÒI was just thinking about the sea.Ó

Luna nodded absently. ÒYes, I was, too, like I said. I was thinking there are probably quite a lot of Yarwels in it; itÕs quite foamy today.Ó

Harry smiled sleepily. ÒHow would Yarwels make it foamy?Ó

ÒWhen they breed, you see,Ó she said, a faraway look in her eyes. ÒThe male emits a—Ó

ÒActually, I donÕt want to know,Ó Harry quickly amended. After a brief pause, he finally admitted, ÒI was remembering Shell Cottage.Ó

ÒYes, that was a nice place,Ó Luna said quickly.

ÒIÕm sorry I was so dumb then,Ó Harry finally. ÒLiving there with you, not realizingÉÓ

ÒItÕs all right,Ó said Luna. ÒI understand. It wasnÕt your fault.Ó

ÒYes, it was!Ó protested Harry, sitting up to look at her. ÒYou were always there, but I never realized it! With ChoÉ with GinnyÉÓ

ÒYou didnÕt realize I was there?Ó Luna asked, blinking in surprise. ÒBut you asked me to SlughornÕs Christmas party, as friends. You had to realize I was there.Ó

ÒWell, I realized you existed,Ó said Harry. ÒI just only thought of you as a friend!Ó

ÒDonÕt you think of me as a friend? I think of you as a friend.Ó

ÒWell, of course, I do. But now youÕre more than a friend.Ó

ÒOh, I see.Ó Luna twisted a strand of her straggly blonde hair around her hand and gave Harry a spacey look that she had to know made him go wild. ÒThat was when you had your Nargle problem.Ó

ÒMy Nargle problem?Ó Harry blinked in confusion. ÒWhatÕs that mean?Ó

Luna smiled. ÒWhen you were infested with Nargles, silly. In fifth year! Well, it was your sixth, butÉÓ

ÒWait,Ó said Harry, very confused. ÒI thought only mistletoe was often infested with Nargles.Ó

Luna shook her head. ÒNo, Harry. Boys can be, too. Girls, sometimes, but most often, itÕs boys. The effects are quite similar to Amortentia, but you donÕt act as stupidly and itÕs not the object of your affectionÕs fault. I donÕt blame Ginny. It wasnÕt her fault, especially after you kissed her like that.Ó

ÒWhat?Ó Harry shifted uncomfortably. Yes, he and Ginny had remained on good terms since their breakup, but he still didnÕt like Luna talking about his ex-girlfriend like that. ÒIt was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. I was sixteen.Ó

Luna nodded. ÒSixteen and infested with Nargles. And then you went and infested poor Ginny.Ó

She must have noticed HarryÕs blank look, because she added, ÒHarry, if you listened to me more often, youÕd know these things. Sometimes, when a boy is infested with Nargles-Ó

ÒBut how did I get infested with Nargles?Ó

ÒOh thatÕs easy. The mistletoe in the D.A. room was full of them, couldnÕt you see?Ó

Harry shook his head. Luna sighed.

ÒYou really ought to read all the old back issues of the Quibbler. Plus, it would make Daddy really happy.Ó

ÒLunaÉÓ began Harry, but she smiled.

ÒYou must have gotten the Nargles when you kissed Cho Chang underneath the mistletoe,Ó Luna explained.

ÒOkayÉÓ said Harry, a little uneasily. ÒAnd I had themÉÓ

ÒFor quite a long time,Ó said Luna. ÒAlmost two years.Ó

ÒBut, I smelled Amortentia in Potions—Ó

ÒOh, did the Nargles affect that?Ó asked Luna curiously. ÒI didnÕt know they would. ThatÕs very interesting.Ó

"How did I get rid of them?" he asked, suddenly intrigued.

"I expect it was when you died, of course," she said thoughtfully. "They're parasites; they'd have abandoned you right when you died. I wonder who they attatched themselves to next." She put a finger to her lips. "Was Voldemort in love with anyone?"

Harry shook his head. ÒI don't think so. So youÕre sayingÉ I never really liked Ginny?Ó

Luna shook her head. ÒOh no, IÕm not saying that. You consider her a friend, donÕt you?Ó

He nodded enthusiastically, remembering LunaÕs distinctions. ÒSheÕs my friend. What I mean is youÕre saying I was never really in love with her.Ó

ÒYes,Ó said Luna. ÒThatÕs what IÕm saying. Nargles were behind it. After all, it was incredibly sudden, wasnÕt it?Ó

Harry suddenly remembered that he had never really thought about Ginny in that way until he smelled the Amortentia. ÒIt was,Ó he said slowly, almost beginning to believe Luna. ÒNow that I come to think about it.Ó

Luna beamed. ÒOh, Harry this is such an interesting case study! You must let me interview you for an article IÕm writing. IÕve got to warn people about the Nargles. YouÕve been infect and – oh, come on, letÕs go Floo Ginny; she can be in the article, too.Ó

She leapt to her feet and thrust out her hand to Harry who took it and hauled himself to his feet. As they returned to the cottage together, Harry decided that he was quite glad the Nargles were gone, even if he had had to die to let it happen.
